summersumz: I <3 Dr. West Jay and I bumped into Dr West at the Wellesley Public library a few years back. Jay was 5 at the time and dressed up a doctor from some previous imaginary play I just cut short prior to our trip. Dr West was picking out a movie to watch with a lady friend that Saturday night. Being the kinda guy I saddled over and introduced myself. Had he been an actor or athlete I wouldn’t have bothered or been interested but I had seen him on Tavis Smiley’s program a few times and liked what he had to say. He was very gracious and almost immediately leaned down and asked Jay his name. Since then every time I see Dr West’s face I can hear him say in a deep and exhuberant voice as he stuck his hand out to my kid, “Weelll, weeel, Dr Jay!”
