As many of you know, I have an 8y/o in the Cub Scouts. And every year the boys go door-to-door selling popcorn to raise money for the Pack. I make it a point that Jay do all the selling as opposed to me doing the work for him. So we hoof it door-to-door and he does his spiel and I take the orders. I also take him to the office too -but same deal -he has to sell it.  And he’s pretty good at...

Emptyage: Generation X Doesn't Want to Hear It →
Earlier generations have weathered recessions, of course; this stall we’re in has the look of something nastier. Social Security and Medicare are going to be diminished, at best. Hours worked are up even as hiring staggers along: Blood from a stone looks to be the normal order of things “going…

inthefade: The front page of Wired has a collection of quotes about Steve Jobs. It’s a beautiful and humbling thing to read. This is why Steve Jobs, in my eyes, is an inspiration. You can say what you want about his megalomania, his perfectionism, his use of Chinese labor (and trust me, people are saying…

austinkleon: A sensationalized story from the Independent. Here’s the lowdown, buried about 5 paragraphs in: this “photography enthusiast from Pennsylvania” posted a bunch of antique Japanese photographs on his Flickr stream, which Dylan then painted. Dylan’, whose gallery won’t reveal the price of the paintings, did not actually breach copyright - since the antique images from Oechsle’s Flickr...

This Day in Music Spotlight: The Boss Leaves One... →
September 29, 1989 It could have been any other Friday night at Matt’s Saloon in Prescott, Arizona. The beer was flowing, the band was playing and everyday folks were celebrating the start of a hard-earned weekend. Oh yeah, and Bruce Springsteen was there. No E Street Band, no Patti Scialfa, just an unannounced visit from The Boss and a few of his buddies, who had come from Los Angeles to...
